It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with with the timetables! I don't want to mislead any travellers so have removed specific timings for long-distance rail and coach routes, but have included direct links to the operator's websites where you can organise your journey with the interactive journey planners.

Rail

Glasgow (Queen St. Station)
to/from Connel (Connel Ferry Station)
and Oban (Oban Station)
Monday - Saturday
normally 3 trains per day each way
at around 8am, noon and 6pm

 

The 3 hour rail journey on the West Highland Line can be recommended as a good trip simply for the magnificent scenery through which the line passes. Its possible to travel from Connel, via Crianlarich to Fort Wiiliam and on to Mallaig for a long day out. Steam trains run on the Fort William to Mallaig section during the summer - advance booking usually advisable.

between Glasgow and Oban

FERRIES

Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) ferries provide vital
links between the mainland and the islands
of the Scottish Hebrides.
From Oban vehicle ferries run to the local islands
of Mull and Lismore, and the more distant islands
of Colonsay, Coll, Tiree and the Outer Hebrides.

Bookings essential for vehicles in summer.
For daily sailing times and cancellations listen
to Oban FM Radio (103.3 FM) just after the 0800 news

There is also a passenger-only ferry linking Lismore
with Port Appin, a few miles north of Benderloch
